Eli & Edythe Broad Foundation

Designed for Family Office Financial Services, LLC (FOFS), which provides financial, accounting, and administrative services to Eli and Edythe Broad’s family and charitable foundations, the project reimagines the conventional office as a setting for both work and an extraordinary contemporary art collection.

The plan is organized with private offices toward the interior and open workstations along the perimeter, allowing daylight to penetrate deep into the workplace while preserving unobstructed views across Los Angeles. Glass partitions extend these visual connections through the interior, creating a workplace that feels open and expansive while maintaining the privacy required by the organization.

At the heart of the design is the seamless integration of gallery and workplace. Art is not treated as decoration applied after the architecture is complete, but as an essential part of the spatial experience. Reception areas, meeting rooms, circulation spaces, and informal gathering areas become places for encountering the collection throughout the working day.

The architecture deliberately exercises restraint. A limited material palette, clean lines, pale wood, glass, and carefully integrated lighting create a quiet framework for the art. Wood ceilings establish warmth and continuity through circulation and collaborative areas, while moments of color in furniture and lighting provide measured counterpoints to the otherwise neutral environment.

The result is a workplace shaped as much by culture as by function: open to light and views, calibrated around the experience of art, and designed to provide an understated backdrop for both the collection and the people who inhabit it.
