Broad Foundation HQ

For the Broad Foundation and Broad Family Offices, the move from Century City to Downtown Los Angeles represented more than a change of address. Located on Bunker Hill, one block from The Broad Museum, the new headquarters places the organization closer to the communities and cultural institutions central to its mission. The interior responds by asking how architecture can make those values tangible through the everyday experience of work.

The office unfolds as a sequence of distinct yet interconnected environments. At its center, the Education Library establishes a warm, domestic counterpoint to the conventional corporate workplace. Inspired by Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand’s House for a Young Man, the room combines white oak millwork, books, art, textured surfaces, and a low coffered ceiling to create an intimate setting for conversation, curiosity, and exchange. Fold-up wood-framed windows connect the Library to the adjacent kitchen, allowing the two spaces to function together as a larger communal heart for the office.

Beyond the Library, the workplace becomes progressively more open and transparent. Private offices are concentrated within the building core and enclosed in glass, while shared workspaces occupy the perimeter, giving employees access to natural light and expansive views across Los Angeles. White oak frames soften the glass office fronts and bring a consistent material language to the interior.

Art is not treated as decoration added after the architecture. The workplace itself becomes a setting for the Foundation’s collection, with circulation routes functioning as informal galleries and individual works integrated throughout meeting rooms, offices, and communal spaces. Architecture, furniture, art, and material are composed as a continuous experience.

The result is a workplace shaped less by hierarchy than by encounter: between people and ideas, art and architecture, focused work and collective exchange. It gives physical form to the Broad Foundation’s cultural and educational mission while creating an environment that remains personal, generous, and deeply connected to Los Angeles.
